Promo for a new production in Athens, Greece, of Doug Wright's play I Am My Own Wife, which tells the story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, born Lothar Berfelde, who killed her father when she was a young boy and survived the Nazi and Communist regimes in East Berlin as a transvestite.

It's being staged at the Bios Basement in Athens until the 3rd of April.

UK:- 5 year-old, born a boy, lives as a girl

Zach Avery, who was born a boy, is one of the youngest-ever children to be officially diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder. He's now 5, and has been living as a girl for a year. Both his family and his school are being supportive.

His story has been picked up by newspapers and web sites in Italy and in the UK, where The Telegraph is running a reader poll, asking people to vote as to whether they believe a 5 year-old is capable of choosing to be a different sex. The paper also has quotes from his mother, who's clearly taking a very pragmatic and balanced view of Zach's situation.

"He likes playing with his sister's old toys but he still loves Dr Who too and playing with his brother. And we still put some neutral clothes in his wardrobe if he ever decides he wants to wear them.

We leave it up to him to decide what he wants to do - if he changes his mind and wants to be a boy again then he does, but if he doesn't, he doesn't."

USA:- South Carolina to vote on sex-changes for prisoners

Civil rights campaigners in South Carolina are concerned about an attempt by some senators to prevent transgender prisoners receiving hormones or surgery at state expense while they're behind bars.

What's more, S.C.Equality say that the legislative process for a bill currently under consideration by a Senate Committee in South Carolina, which would reverse the current policy whereby the S.C. Department of Corrections has to pay for hormonal treatment and surgery for inmates who come into the prison system during the sex-change process, is actually costing more than treating the state's transsexual prisoners.

Canada:- Airline security bans transgender passengers

Changes to security rules for passengers boarding planes in Canada are causing some problems for transgender travellers, according to CBC News.

"The concern is that transgendered people who live their lives as another sex than the one stated on their passport or other forms of identification will be effectively banned from boarding flights.

Currently, transgendered Canadian citizens can only have their passport changed permanently if they have undergone gender reassignment surgery or can prove that they will be having the operation within a year. The other option is a temporary, two-year passport, which is only issued if the person has proof they will be having reassignment surgery."

The regulations - which came into force in 2011 - mean that airlines can't let a passenger onto a plane who "does not appear to be of the gender indicated on the identification he or she presents." Current advice is that if a passenger's appearance has changed for medical reasons after the photo on the ID was taken, they will be able to board if they have a document signed by a health-care professional.

UK:- FtM mother wants to be a good dad

Britain's first male mother says he wants to live as a normal father, in an interview with The Mail on Sunday. The man - who gave birth in March 2011 - was the fourth recorded ftm transsexual to have a child post-transition.

According to the paper, he's raising his daughter as a single parent, and says 'It's not something I want to become famous for. I don't want everyone to know that I'm transgender.' He lives in the North of England.
